Sounds like quite the ordeal you two are going through to get this back up and running.
Hope some luck happens on one of those two options.

Me and Hexous e-mailed back and forth some from April through December last year, and it sounds like he only has a small part of the files for it. It sounds like he only has a few files from a weekly automated partial backup or something, probably character data and log files I'm guessing. I hope it's not a problem for me to quote e-mails in public without checking first, but here's what he told me: I had to set up and run different versions of the MudOS driver and several different mudlibs back when I was writing intermud (intercre/rwho/tell Name@MUD type of thing) clients for different mudlibs and the I3 server, and had to test 'em all on my own system. So I'm good enough with LPC that I'm fairly confident I could get it running within a week or so if I had the files. I have my fingers crossed that Hexous might actually have a full backup of the related files and just doesn't trust me with it or something. I don't trust the mail to handle aging hard drives very much... Harley->Hexous->Fonspa->LPC expert seems too risky to me, when there's really no need for the hardware anyway. Fonspa, did you happen to save the MUD folder before sending it off to your expert friend? You don't need the rest of the system or even the driver, as long as you have the actual game files that are in /home/mud/ or /home/zhing/ or /home/harley/ or wherever he put 'em. All the game files themselves are platform independent, which basically means that you can use them together with latest MudOS with some backwards compatibility options turned on... none of the game cares what kind of processor it's on, what OS it's installed on, or whatever, as long as MudOS runs there. The latest MudOS is available from mudos.org, and has lots of backwards compatibility options, plus there are some older versions on many MUD coding web sites if you really need the older versions, so having to compile it is not as big an issue as it sounds (though I know it sounds intimidating if you've never done it). I'd be glad to help, and I don't even mind jumping through some hoops if I can get a chance to play again. Does one of you actually have the game files? I'm debating on if I should just write a how-to on setting up drivers to run with old mudlibs sometime during my next vacation, (so that one of you guys can set it up yourself, if you'd feel better about it that way) but it'd be a waste of time if nobody has it. -Tim/Ralph

I only had a copy of the tarball sent to me by harley, (the one that doesn't have all the files), I wasn't able to get the os to load properly so I couldn't do a backup of the harddrive, if I had my head on straight I would have just done an image of the drive itself, but I was slamming my head against the wall at the time and just wanted to get the d**n thing working. I take full responsiblity for this deriliction of duty. I have not heard from Fonspa since his email stating he was unimpressed with the state of the degrading technology. I sincerely hope that we can actually get something done, as it's terrible to have lost such a significant portion of work from so many people. You all are welcome to respond to me directly with tony {dot} becker {at} gmail {dot} com I look forward to hearing from you.

Please give a status update, or let me know how to get the server back from you, I'll pay for shipping, whatever, would just like another stab at it, rather than watch it waste away.
