I'm hoping I find a new interest in Mudding again, once Zynna comes back up. I got sucked into the WoW experience. I love the game, but god it's time consuming. I don't have a life. I play WoW. Hope to be able to play Zynna again soon. Thanks for doing what you're doing Hexous. I know what you mean Cookie. The 24 hour tending your fleets/troops games are insane! I tried Ogame through the winter and came to the conclusion that such games are an insane plot designed by some dark cartel of maniacs with an incomprehensible agenda devoted to draining us all of every moment of constructive thought, effort.... aaaaarrrghh.... I look forward to a return to the friendly confines of Zynna!

Well, looks like the MudOS doesn't like SUSE, and has been pre-compiled in redhat 4.2, and since I only have backup files and not the full source code (if that ever even existed) I cannot recompile it under a different linux flavor. So now it's down to beating the old server with a hammer in the hopes that significant and sudden g-forces make it play nice, or try and find a copy of redhat 4.2 to install on our VM server. I vote both, if only for the pure satisfaction and stress reduction. If you'll excuse me, I have a meeting with the Bob's.

It sure sounds like you're getting an education, Hexous. I'd like to say I am too but I don't understand or even care about that stuff. I applaud your efforts.
So, why can't you just say that you don't know what to do? Plain talk is very appealing to most. If you need an expert, why not hire one? I guess Harley dumped it on you for a reason. I mean, if he couldn't deal with it with all his connections, what chance do we have.

Meh, just trying to give you guys as detailed a report as possible so everyone knows the up and up, I always found it frustrating to hear, "nope, it's not done yet", over and over. I think my co-worker found an ancient 3com network card that at least started to halfway initialize. So we'll definitely try to get the old server working first if we can as it's definitely less configuration. Also, while I'm not the best person to be doing linux server work, I understand the gist of what needs to get done, and living in fantastic Gillette, Wyoming (hiring an expert) is definitely more of an adventure than visiting the local computer store. Regardless, as the server is currently not operational at all any progress is 100% improvement, glass half full and all.. I look forward to playing with you all again soon. More info as it arrives.

Sorry to say, not much happened this last week, what with the holidays and my daughter being born, I took some time off. I'm now back at work and will see what our happy go lucky problem solving abilities give us now.

All the very best wishes for you and your family. I have two middle age kids and an eight year old grandson that I promised when he was an infant that he could enjoy the mud. He's still asking about it. He used to sit on my lap at 2 years old and trash all my settings but it was so much fun to watch his face as he learned, that I didn't care what he did.
I understand the responsibilities of family life and how insignificant this mud stuff is for you at this most important time in your life.
I'm not getting any younger over here, lol.
Let's get the show on the road. For over ten years now, everyone has been piddling with Zhing/Zynna.
Let's get together with an expert and resolve this problem. I will pay all the fee's. You can keep it if you want and I will foot the bill or you can turn it over to me or anyone else you trust and release yourself of the responsibility. All I ask is that a decision is made.

If you have someone that will take a look at it, please let me know. I'm basically pulling my hair out, and not getting very far. I'm in the same boat as you and simply want it to work. If you think you can get it working, tell me, and I'll go bubblewrap it tonight, or I'll talk to whomever you want me to talk to. Whatever needs to be done. I don't like being "the guy that killed zynna".

Anything new? I still check here from time to time to see if we might be getting the mud back anytime soon. Hope everything is going well for everyone.

Fonspa's got the server. I have a copy of the mud files, that I'm still gonna see if I can get a virtual machine working, other than that, you'll have to ask him.

Fonspa:
I have a battered, outdated piece of equipment. The cabinet was unscrewed and falling off with internal wiring connections askew, some literally ripped out and damaged when it came in the mail.
I've had several local "experts" look at it, not for free. I told them that unless they are absolutely certain that they can deal with this type of mud to forget it. They took their leave.
It's currently in the mail on the way to a supposed expert on lpmuds. A colleague of one of the old timers that developed lpmuds.
Hexous. Why can't you find a mud host and put up your copy? You have the domain name and everything else all locked up as it is with your company.

I've been working on that path since I shipped the box. Of course, having it on a different server, runs into the same problems from when I tried to run it on a different server here, it doesn't work properly with the dynamic library files. I have managed to get a little bit of more insight as to why it's failing on the new servers though. Is there any way I can have you or someone access the server and send me a copy of the following file: '/lib/ld-linux.so.1' The guys I have talked to have said that the only reason it seems to be failing is the library files and that I will need to either have the source files and 'makefile' that was used to originally compile the game, or to try and obtain that previously mentioned file and see if I can trick the hosting server into running it. Also, the domain isn't locked up anywhere, I had to take over the domain name registration as it was expiring in 2 weeks when I was notified that Harvey was getting rid of the server. I also mentioned that I control the dns servers at work so if you give me an ip address, I can point the domain name to where I need. I also appreciate you having your people look at the server, and I understand the cost associated with something like that, which is why I wanted to avoid that scenario. But if you can get that file for me, I would appreciate it, and then I can keep trying on this end.

Was wondering if you've had any luck with your lpc guys? I've got another avenue or two that I can persue here, but need the actual server to do it. So if you stuck in the same boat, please let me know so that we can keep working on it.
